The collation of parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North constituency suffered a violent disruption as suspected thugs, believed to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stormed the Electoral Commission’s collation center at Ridge, Greater Accra.
Witnesses report that over 40 individuals forced their way into the center early today, vandalizing properties, including louvre blades and doors, and ordering everyone out.
This incident adds to the already fraught collation process, which has faced multiple suspensions due to disagreements over the authentication of pink sheets from three polling stations.
The collation, scheduled to resume today after the resignation of Returning Officer Vincent Obeng, was nearing its conclusion with results from 278 out of 281 polling stations verified.
The remaining three stations have been a point of contention between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), further heightening tensions.
