The Tema Regional Police Command has announced a series of major breakthroughs in its fight against crime, including the interception of large quantities of suspected narcotics, the arrest of robbery suspects, the recovery of stolen goods, and the rejection of a GH¢150,000 bribery attempt.
The achievements were outlined by the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, during his maiden press briefing on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
He said the operations demonstrate the Command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety across the Tema Region.
One of the highlights of the briefing was the Command’s rejection of a GH¢150,000 bribe allegedly offered to compromise investigations into a major narcotics case.
According to DCOP Asiedu, on February 15, 2026, police intercepted a blue tipper truck at Toflokpo near Sege carrying sacks of suspected narcotic plant materials. While the driver and the alleged owner abandoned the vehicle and fled, a suspect identified as Victor Asigbey later reported to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department and allegedly attempted to bribe investigators with GH¢150,000 to facilitate the release of the truck and its contents.
The police rejected the offer, arrested the suspect, and conducted an inventory which uncovered 3,009 compressed slabs of suspected narcotics. Asigbey has since been arraigned before court, with the case adjourned to November 3, 2026.
The Regional Command also disclosed that on May 31, 2026, personnel from the Tema Highway Patrol Unit intercepted a Hyundai Mighty container truck at Bundasi carrying 12 sacks and 80 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
In another intelligence-led operation on June 14, police intercepted a tipper truck at Afienya transporting 63 sacks containing 5,039 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic drugs believed to be destined for Ada. Two suspects, Solomon Akuaku and James Tetteh, were arrested and remanded into custody by the court.
On the robbery front, the Command reported significant progress in investigating a warehouse robbery at Mummy’s Recipe Warehouse in Tema Community 9.
The warehouse had been attacked by armed men who overpowered and tied up security guards before making away with 2,826 bags of rice and 113 cartons of sardines.
Following intelligence-led investigations, police tracked the stolen items to a warehouse at Ayigbe Town near the Tema Industrial Area, where six suspects were arrested while loading 717 bags of the stolen rice onto a truck. The suspects have since been remanded into police custody.
Police also recovered 600 bags of stolen cocoa fertiliser, representing nearly 80 per cent of a consignment stolen during an armed robbery at Kpone Kokompe.
The prime suspect, identified as 20-year-old driver Jacob Botwe, has been arrested and remanded by the Tema Circuit Court.
Meanwhile, an intelligence-led surveillance operation at Zenu-Atadeka on July 16 thwarted an alleged robbery attempt after armed suspects reportedly opened fire on police officers.
One suspect sustained fatal injuries during the exchange of fire, while three others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Beyond the operational successes, DCOP Asiedu warned individuals involved in chieftaincy disputes and landguard activities to desist from acts of violence and unlawful assemblies, stressing that the Command would deal decisively with anyone who breaches the law.
He also expressed concern over increasing incidents of violence among students and cautioned against the possession of offensive weapons in schools, urging parents, teachers and school authorities to work closely with the police to maintain discipline and security.
With the Homowo Festival approaching, the Regional Police Commander assured residents of adequate security arrangements across the region.
He cautioned that anyone who attempts to foment trouble or engage in violence under the guise of traditional celebrations would be arrested and prosecuted.
DCOP Asiedu called on traditional authorities, community leaders, the media and the general public to support the police by providing timely and credible information to help sustain the fight against crime in the region.
