A member of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2028 campaign team, Alhaji Mohammed Elias, has donated GH¢50,000 and quantities of water to 16 youth groups involved in this year’s Teshie Homowo Festival.
The gesture is aimed at supporting the groups as they organise and participate in activities marking the annual celebration.
Alhaji Elias, who is also the Songhai Community Chief of Tema, presented the donation following engagements with representatives of the beneficiary groups.
Speaking at the presentation, he encouraged the youth of Teshie to remain optimistic about their prospects, particularly in the areas of employment and skills development.
He said Dr Bawumia was aware of the challenges confronting young people and indicated that a future administration led by the former Vice President would prioritise job creation, capacity building and opportunities for the youth.
According to Alhaji Elias, the donation forms part of his broader support for youth and community initiatives, following similar interventions in Tema and Nungua.
He also highlighted the significance of the Homowo Festival, describing it as an important occasion for preserving Ga cultural traditions while encouraging community participation and youth involvement.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the 16 groups, a youth leader popularly known as Sweety Jordan expressed appreciation to Alhaji Elias for the support.
He said the donation came at an appropriate time and would help the groups undertake their activities during the ongoing Homowo celebrations.
He further called on other individuals and organisations to support initiatives aimed at promoting youth development and community activities.
In a separate gesture, Alhaji Elias also presented a cash donation to the leadership of the Teshie traditional priests to support their participation in the Homowo festivities.
He acknowledged the role of traditional priests in preserving the community’s cultural and spiritual heritage and pledged to increase his support to traditional authorities and priests in the coming year.
The traditional priests, in appreciation, offered libations and prayers for Alhaji Elias and his team while expressing gratitude for the gesture.
The latest donations form part of Alhaji Elias’ stated efforts to support youth, cultural and community-based activities across parts of the Greater Accra Region.
