The Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) has rejected a directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC) to suspend its ongoing strike.
The union declared an indefinite nationwide strike on Friday, September 19, 2025, over what it described as government’s undue delay in signing its conditions of service.
TEWU leaders have accused the government of neglecting the welfare of non-teaching staff in the education sector, saying the prolonged inaction on their demands has left their members frustrated.
The strike has since disrupted operations across schools nationwide, putting pressure on education authorities to address the union’s concerns.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday, September 23, the National Chairperson of TEWU, Salamatu Mahamah Braimah, maintained that the strike would continue until their conditions of service were signed.
“Until we conclude and sign the conditions of service, we will not come to class. The NLC themselves know that we went by the rules, and this is never illegal. We have given them the chronology of events. So why is NLC writing to us?” she stated.
