Thai Union Group, one of the world’s leading seafood producers, has inaugurated a $14 million tuna cold storage facility in Tema, Greater Accra Region.
The new 8,000-tonne capacity facility is equipped with advanced post-harvest technology aimed at maintaining fish quality and ensuring food safety.
The storage center also incorporates energy-efficient technologies designed to minimize energy consumption and reduce waste, positioning the facility as a key player in the transformation of the local fishing industry.
During the opening ceremony last Thursday, July 18, the CEO and President of Thai Union Group, Khun Thirapong Chansiri, highlighted the significance of this investment, marking the company’s first major venture in Ghana since 2010.
“The establishment of this facility demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the fisheries sector and aligns with the national agenda to foster industrial growth, promote sustainable practices, and drive economic development,” Chansiri stated.
He emphasized the role such investments play in boosting the local economy and enhancing the value chain within the fisheries industry.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister of Fisheries praised Thai Union Group’s dedication to innovation and excellence.
He assured that the government remains committed to creating a conducive environment for private sector growth.
“Your efforts are not only setting new standards in the industry but also inspiring other businesses to invest in advanced technologies and sustainable practices,” he remarked.
The Deputy Minister concluded by stating that the benefits of this facility would be long-lasting, driving growth and development within the fisheries sector and contributing to the broader economic progress of the region.
