Daryl Bossu, Deputy Director of Arocha Ghana, has called for the dismissal of the Land Minister, criticizing the recent government response to the galamsey crisis.
Speaking on ABC Midday on September 13, 2024, Bossu expressed discontent with the government’s approach, particularly the formation of a 5-member ad hoc committee.
He described the move as a tactic to quell dissent rather than address the underlying issues.
Bossu argued that the committee, chaired by National Security Minister Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah, and including other key ministers, fails to address the core problem.
He highlighted that the same officials who have overseen the ongoing illegal mining activities are now tasked with finding solutions, which he believes will be ineffective.
“We are not amused at all,” Bossu stated, emphasizing that the formation of this new committee does not meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
The dissatisfaction follows a $700 million drop in cocoa revenue in the first half of 2024, which has been exacerbated by the illegal mining activities.
Bossu reiterated that Arocha Ghana will continue to advocate for meaningful reforms and expressed skepticism about the committee’s potential impact on the crisis.
