Two police officers stationed at the Ofoase Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service have died in a tragic motor accident at Ofoase Ayirebi in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.
The deceased officers have been identified as Lance Corporal Isaac Anti and Constable Allonyor Thomas.
Sources indicate that the two officers were riding a motorcycle from Ofoase to Ayirebi to buy food when the accident occurred. They were reportedly off duty at the time.
Their motorcycle is said to have crashed into a stationary tricycle, locally known as an “aboboyaa.”
Lance Corporal Anti died instantly at the scene due to the severity of the impact.
His colleague, Constable Thomas, sustained serious injuries and was reportedly bleeding heavily. He was rushed to the Brenase Health Centre for urgent medical attention but was later pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Sources further revealed that the owner of the tricycle fled the scene after realising that the victims were police officers, reportedly fearing a possible attack from members of the community.
The police have since launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased officers have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
