In honor of Women’s History Month, the UMI Foundation, a non-profit organization, has successfully inspired and equipped over 500 women with the necessary skills to drive excellence and impact in their chosen professions. The initiative, known as the “A Lady with a Dream Conference,” aimed to empower participants while celebrating women’s achievements and promoting gender equality.
Themed “Unlocking possibilities: Empowering women for excellence and impact,” the conference provided a platform to address the specific needs and challenges faced by women in the early to mid-stages of their careers. The founder of the UMI Foundation, Marina Lamptey, emphasized the importance of providing guidance, inspiration, and practical strategies to help women overcome barriers and excel in their fields.
Ms. Lamptey underscored the need for collaborative efforts to champion gender parity, attributing her commitment to her late father’s philanthropic legacy. She expressed her dedication to supporting and uplifting women from all walks of life, providing them with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to achieve their dreams.
In addition to empowering women in various professions, the conference featured insights from notable speakers in the public sector. Elizabeth Sackey, the Mayor of Accra, acknowledged the competitive and male-dominated nature of the public sector, urging women to persevere through hard work and diligence. She emphasized the values of resilience, determination, solidarity, and integrity as essential principles for success.
Osafohene Afua Asabea Asare, CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), advised women in business to embody excellence and continuously push boundaries for improvement. She encouraged young women to view challenges as opportunities for growth, leveraging their unique perspectives and talents to drive innovation and change.
Erieka Bennet, Head of Mission Diaspora African Forum, reminded participants that challenges are inevitable in professional life and encouraged them to use obstacles as stepping stones to achieving their aspirations.
Overall, the “A Lady with a Dream Conference” served as a catalyst for women’s empowerment, fostering collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to collectively elevate standards of excellence within various industries.
