The University of Ghana, Legon, has lifted its campus-wide ban on social gatherings following a recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
In a notice issued by the Office of Student Affairs on Monday, July 14, the university announced that, in consultation with the University Health Services and Management, all restrictions on social events have been officially removed with immediate effect.
The decision marks the return of full campus life, allowing student groups such as the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), religious organisations, and departmental associations to resume their weekly celebrations and other planned activities.
“GRASAG, SRC, JCR, religious groups, departmental and school associations are now permitted to organise their week celebrations,” the notice stated.
Despite the easing of restrictions, university authorities have warned that health protocols must still be strictly observed.
With 141 COVID-19 cases recently recorded within the university community, students and organisers are expected to fully comply with all safety guidelines.
The statement concluded with a strong reminder: “Note that all COVID-19 protocols should be adhered to. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.”
