Ursula Owusu unveils 5G Network, three cities to get connected today

Ghana has officially launched its high-speed 5G internet service, bringing advanced connectivity to residents in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, starting today.

The launch event, held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, was graced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s digital transformation.

As part of the government’s commitment to expanding connectivity across the country, this initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for Ghanaians by providing reliable and efficient internet services.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful emphasized the transformative potential of 5G, stating that this service represents “a revolutionary leap forward that promises to redefine connectivity, productivity, and overall quality of life.”

With the network expected to be activated shortly, residents in the initial cities will begin to experience the immediate benefits of this high-speed service.

The government’s phased rollout plan aims to extend 5G coverage to more urban areas by the end of 2024 and ultimately reach rural regions by 2026, ensuring inclusivity in access to digital resources.

Highlighting the importance of accountability, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful urged citizens to hold their service providers responsible for delivering 5G coverage as promised.

She reiterated the government’s commitment to making high-speed internet accessible to all, particularly through affordable data packages tailored for businesses, students, and low-income households.

As Ghana steps into the future of connectivity, this launch is poised to drive growth in various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, and education, paving the way for innovative advancements in smart cities and the Internet of Things (IoT).
