Residents of Amefinukope in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region are in shock after five exhumed bodies were discovered in two local cemeteries on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

The corpses, which were desecrated, had their heads removed, leaving the community deeply unsettled. According to local leader Mr. Kwashi Senaya, the damage was particularly evident at the head end of the graves, and the cemeteries affected belong to the Amefinu and Kponor families.

“The heads of the deceased were gone,” Senaya confirmed.

The disturbing discovery has led to an investigation by the Ghana Police Service, with officials from the Agbozume Police Station launching a probe to identify those responsible for this sacrilegious act.

The authorities have vowed to uncover the truth and bring the perpetrators to justice. The incident has sparked widespread fear and outrage within the community, as many question the motive behind such a heinous crime.

Ibrahim Ayuba, the Assembly Member for the Logove Electoral Area, has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with law enforcement.

“I encourage community members to come forward with any information that might aid the investigation,” Ayuba said. As the police continue their inquiries, the residents of Amefinukope are left grappling with the unsettling reality of the crime and its implications for their community.
