The Chief of Wasa Dikoto in the Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region, Nana Ntiako Agyiri II, has appealed to the government to urgently repair the collapsed Ankobra River Bridge which he says has remained in a deplorable state for more than three years.
According to the chief, the situation has created serious difficulties for residents and communities that depend on the bridge as a major link for transportation, trade and other economic activities.
Nana Ntiako Agyiri II said the collapsed bridge serves several communities in the area, including Koofie Krom, Manu Krom, Takyie Krom, Wasa Anyinabirem and Dikoto Junction.
He explained that the situation had negatively affected transport operators, traders, farmers and schoolchildren who continue to struggle with movement due to the poor condition of the bridge.
The chief said farmers and traders in particular had been affected because the bridge is an important route for transporting farm produce and other goods between the communities and nearby commercial centres.
He further noted that the condition of the bridge had also created difficulties for schoolchildren and other residents who rely on the route for their daily activities.
Nana Ntiako Agyiri II said several petitions had been submitted to the previous government, while numerous complaints had also been made to the relevant authorities but the situation had not yet been resolved.
He therefore appealed to the Minister responsible for Roads and Highways and President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene to restore the bridge and ease the difficulties confronting residents.
“We are appealing to the government to come and repair our bridge for us. The collapse of the bridge has affected our people in many ways, and we need urgent intervention,” Nana Ntiako Agyiri II said.
He stressed that repairing the Ankobra River Bridge would not only improve transportation but also support economic activities and improve access to essential services for residents in the affected communities.
