The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has defended its decision to regulate internal party discussions in the media, urging members to focus on rebuilding rather than fueling negativity following the 2024 election defeat.
Speaking on ABC News GH, Deputy Director of Communications for the NPP, Krobea Asante, stated that while members were disappointed by the election outcome, it was time to move forward.
“It’s normal for everyone to pour out their anger, disappointment, and frustration. But three months after the election, we cannot allow the space to be occupied by negative news. At the end of the day, we still have the party to organize and an election to win in 2028,” he said.
According to him, the General Secretary, acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee, issued a clear directive for party members to refrain from engaging the media on sensitive internal matters.
Citing the party’s constitution, Asante noted that all members have a duty to defend the party’s image.
“The leaders have done nothing untoward. In fact, they are making sure that they streamline the conversations and shape the narratives so that we don’t put the image of the party into disrepute,” he emphasized.
He further revealed that the National Council has set up a review committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Michael Oquaye, to engage party stakeholders nationwide.
“They have visited almost every constituency and continue to give all party members an opportunity to speak out. Aside from that, an email address and contact number have been provided for members to submit their concerns,” he disclosed.
Asante insisted that the NPP is not suppressing grievances but ensuring that discussions remain constructive and beneficial to the party’s future.
