President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the Volta Region receives its rightful share of national development projects, declaring that the region will not be left behind under his leadership.

He gave the assurance on Friday, December 5, during the 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration held in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.

Addressing a large gathering of farmers, chiefs, government officials, and residents, President Mahama described the Volta Region as the “Oxygen City,” emphasizing its strategic importance to the country’s economic and social development.

He noted that he has visited the region several times since assuming office and remains committed to honouring the promises he made during the campaign.

“I have been to the Volta Region several times since my inauguration as president, and I have assured the people of the region that as long as I remain president and the NDC remains in power, we will make sure the Volta Region always gets its fair share of the national cake,” he said.

Highlighting ongoing infrastructural developments, President Mahama disclosed that a significant portion of the road projects under his government’s “Big Push” initiative are located in the Volta Region.

He noted that the Regional Minister recently inspected all awarded projects and confirmed that contractors are already on site, with many having completed their camp setups and begun construction.

“I am sure that by the time I come back next year, or within 18 months, most of those roads will be nearing completion,” the President assured.

He further announced plans to expand the Adidome Water Treatment Plant to improve water supply in Ho and surrounding communities. According to him, the expansion forms part of a broader agenda to enhance water systems in the region.

President Mahama also revealed that land has finally been secured for the construction of the Aflao Asigamey project, a major campaign promise. “I promised during the campaign that we will build Asigamey in Aflao so that we will have Lomé–Ashigamey and Aflao–Ashigamey,” he said, describing the project as a major socio-economic boost for the border area.

In addition, the President announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art intelligence and counter-terrorism training centre in Hohoe. The facility, he said, will serve not only Ghana but the entire ECOWAS sub-region, offering advanced training in signals and intelligence to regional security personnel.

“ECOWAS countries that want to send their students to train—and other African countries—will come here to Hohoe to train in signal and intelligence,” he stated.

President Mahama’s renewed assurances mark a significant moment for the Volta Region, reinforcing its place at the center of the government’s broader development agenda.

With major projects now underway, from road construction and water expansion to strategic security installations, the region stands poised to benefit from some of the most ambitious investments in recent years.
