Ing. David Sarfo Adonteng, Director General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), has issued a stern warning against any form of recklessness during the election period.
In a recent media engagement, Adonteng emphasized that the NRSA, along with other stakeholders, will not tolerate any behavior that jeopardizes road safety before, during, or after the announcement of election results.
This firm stance comes as the authority grapples with alarming statistics showing a surge in road crashes during election years.
The NRSA’s concerns are heightened this year due to a historical trend of increased accidents during election periods.
Adonteng pointed out that past elections have seen a significant rise in road incidents, driven by the influx of campaign activities that crowd the roads with various participants.
In response, the NRSA has intensified its efforts, including the development of a code of ethics for politicians and increased engagement with political leaders and their constituents to ensure adherence to safety guidelines.
Adonteng commended political leaders for their cooperation so far and reassured the public that the NRSA remains vigilant.
He urged the media to amplify the road safety message as the country approaches the December 7th general election, highlighting the critical role of media in driving the agenda for safer roads.
