The recipient of the overall best teacher award, Edna Amihere has been honored with a $14,500 car [2022 model Suzuki Swift] at the just ended Duker Teacher’s Award, organized by the deputy minister for lands and natural resources and MP of Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency, Mr. George Mireku Duker.
Madam Edna Amihere, who teaches at Tarkwa Senior High School, was recognised for her long standing service, commitment and contributions towards student development in the municipality.
According to the Member of Parliament, the Duker Teacher’s Award is aimed at inspiring teachers to go above and beyond in their profession and assume a pivotal role in nurturing future leaders for the upcoming generation.
“Education is my top-notch priority, I have always maintained that teachers are minimally motivated irrespective of the strenuous task they go through, hence, the need to consciously recognize their efforts towards enriching education in the Municipality”, he said.
The second edition of this award initiative was held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT). The event dubbed, “Education, Our Future, Our Pride”, brought together chiefs, teachers, students and other dignitaries, in drawing to recognition to how education has played a key role in propelling the world with teachers at the forefront.
In total, 19 teachers were recognized and awarded from six categories including non-teaching staff.
Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Stephen Saforo Yirenkyi, in his speech applauded the MP and called on other ministers of state to do same.
The overall best teacher, Madam Edna Amihere expressed her profound gratitude to George Mireku Duker for recognizing the efforts of teachers in the municipality and called on other teachers to give out their best as the next award will be theirs in the subsequent years to come.
