A woman has died after collapsing during a violent protest at the Ghana–Burkina Faso border town of Hamile in the Upper West Region. The deceased, who is yet to be identified, reportedly hurled insults at security personnel before collapsing.

According to JoyNews Regional Correspondent Rafiq Salam, she was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her death occurred during a demonstration by angry youth against officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

The unrest, which began late Saturday night and continued into Sunday morning, saw protesters burning car tyres, vandalising the Immigration Service office, and setting a Service vehicle ablaze.

The protests were triggered by the alleged arrest of a woman named Ajara, a Burkinabe national domiciled in the Ivory Coast due to instability in her home country.

According to accounts, Ajara was bundled into one of two vehicles used by immigration officers while on her way to Nandom to visit a relative.
