Construction on the 64km Ashaiman to Akosombo Junction Road has resumed after almost a year-long suspension.
This project, part of the Eastern Corridor Road upgrading (Lot 1), includes the design and construction of a dual carriageway from Ashaiman Roundabout to Akosombo Junction, the construction of a flyover at Ashaiman Roundabout, and an interchange at Asutsuare Junction.
The project also involves building 11 pedestrian footbridges, three river bridges, and other ancillary works like drainage structures and walkways.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, inspected the ongoing work during a brief stopover on his way to the Volta and Oti regions.
Currently, the contractor is focusing on earthworks between Asutsuare Junction and Akuse Junction to widen the road into a dual carriageway, with additional site clearing from Doryumu Junction towards Asutsuare Junction.
The project, which commenced in May 2022 with a 30-month duration, was expected to end in November 2024 but stalled in July 2023 due to the government’s debt exchange programme.
