Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.

According to the IGP, the Police Service remains determined to pursue criminals and bring them to justice as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order nationwide.

Mr Yohuno gave the assurance on Tuesday, May 19, when the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana honoured him with a plaque and citation for his contribution to the fight against crime, particularly offences targeting mobile money agents and vendors.

Addressing the gathering, the IGP issued a stern warning to criminals, urging them to abandon their illegal activities as the Police Service strengthens its operations and adopts modern policing strategies to track offenders.

“We want to sound a strong warning to the criminals wherever they are, that we will not give up in our endeavor to make sure that we protect Ghanaians in general. And so, for that matter, they should lay down their arms, they should stop committing crime, because whatever they do and wherever they hide in this our modern day of policing, they can run, but they cannot hide,” he stated.

He stressed that advancements in policing technology and intelligence gathering have enhanced the Service’s ability to identify and apprehend suspects, warning that criminals would increasingly find it difficult to evade arrest.

The IGP further assured the public that the Police Administration remains focused on strengthening security and sustaining efforts aimed at reducing crime across the country.

President of the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana, Edward Ofori-Agyemang, commended the IGP for his leadership and dedication in tackling criminal activities, especially attacks on mobile money operators.

He appealed to the Police Service to maintain the momentum in its anti-crime operations to improve security for mobile money vendors and agents who continue to face threats from armed robbers and other criminals.
