A tragic incident unfolded at Chinese Down in the Ga South Municipality, where a young man in his late 20s, identified only as Sammy, stabbed his 26-year-old girlfriend, Mabel Asantewaa, to death before attempting to take his own life.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, when neighbours reportedly heard screams and rushed to the couple’s apartment.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim was discovered naked in a pool of blood, with her underwear partially removed and stained with menstrual blood.
She had suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck. Palm oil was also found near the suspect, who was gasping for breath after ingesting a poisonous substance.
Prior to this, he is said to have called a friend to confess what had happened. Mabel, a fashion designer, and Sammy, a carpenter, were said to have shown no outward signs of conflict before the tragedy.
Police from the Weija Divisional Command quickly arrived at the scene, conveyed the victim’s body to the morgue for autopsy, and transported the suspect to the Kasoa Polyclinic, where he is receiving treatment under police watch.
Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
