Parliament has formally approved the composition of its Appointments Committee, tasked with vetting and recommending nominees for key ministerial and state appointments.
The committee will be chaired by the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, while Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah assumes the role of Vice Chairperson.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has been appointed as the Ranking Member, with Patricia Appiagyei serving as Deputy Ranking Member.
The Appointments Committee plays a critical role in the governance process by scrutinizing and recommending to Parliament the approval or rejection of individuals nominated by the President. These nominations cover positions such as Ministers of State, their Deputies, and other constitutional or legislatively specified roles.
During the parliamentary session on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the Majority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, presented the report on the composition of the committee. He urged members of the house to adopt the recommendations and approve the committee’s membership.
“The committee respectfully recommends to the house to adopt this report and approve the membership of the Appointments and Business Committee as composed, along with the recomposition of the Committees of Selection based on the ratio of 183 to 88. Mr. Speaker, I so submit,” Dr. Forson stated.
