The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the presidential ballot for the 2024 elections will remain unchanged, despite the disqualification of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi, also known as Roman Fada.
The Commission made this announcement on Tuesday, November 12, assuring the public that “there is no cause for alarm.”
The EC emphasized that the printing of the ballot papers is ninety percent complete, and any changes to the names or positions would not be made.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa clarified that the late Akua Donkor’s name, image, and position would remain on the ballot as initially planned.
Donkor, the party’s former presidential candidate, passed away on October 28, 2024.
Mensa also stated that the EC would conduct extensive public education campaigns before the elections to ensure voters do not mistakenly cast their ballots for the deceased candidate.
Roman Fada’s disqualification was due to a series of errors and illegalities found in his nomination forms.
The EC highlighted that the forms submitted by Fada did not meet the required standards, leading to the decision to bar him from contesting the presidency.
Prior to Donkor’s death, Fada had been the vice-presidential candidate for the GFP, and the party now faces the challenge of navigating the aftermath of these developments ahead of the 2024 general elections.
