The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations against ASP Asong Ayrakwa, the Nima District Police Commander, following accusations that he endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a gathering in the Ayawaso East constituency.

A video circulating on social media allegedly shows ASP Ayrakwa chanting “We will win,” a phrase that some viewers associate with the NDC’s campaign slogan.

The video has raised concerns about the police commander’s impartiality, prompting an official inquiry.

In response to the incident, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command held a meeting with representatives from both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso East and North constituencies.

During this meeting, representatives from both parties dismissed the allegations, urging police authorities to handle the matter cautiously.

The parties advised that conclusions should not be rushed, emphasizing the need for a thorough and unbiased investigation. Mohammed Ramne, the NDC Constituency Chairman for Ayawaso East, defended ASP Ayrakwa, stating,

“This district commander has been working so hard to make sure that there is peace in Nima for somebody somewhere to doctor a video saying that the district commander is saying that NDC will win. In fact, God will punish the person.”

Addressing the concerns raised, DCOP Arhin Kwasi Annor, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, assured that the police would proceed with their own investigation.

Despite the party representatives’ assertion that the commander’s statement could have been in support of peace rather than a specific political party, DCOP Annor maintained that an independent inquiry was necessary.

“You are saying that he was talking about peace and that peace should win. That is your side. We are also going to conduct our own investigations,” he stated
