Tragedy struck Atonsu Bokuro in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Monday, November 18, when a fire claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy and left several properties destroyed.
The fire, which started around 8 a.m., caused widespread panic in the community as residents and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) worked tirelessly to contain the blaze.
DO2 Peter Addai, the Ashanti Regional Spokesperson for the Fire Service, confirmed that the charred remains of the deceased were found after the flames were extinguished.
“We promptly dispatched the fire tender from BOST, and upon arrival, the fire was already fully ablaze. We quickly called for backup and sent the fire tender from Kumasi Metro to provide additional support,” Addai stated.
Despite the intensity of the inferno, firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining buildings.
The fire destroyed numerous items, including LPG cylinders, ceiling fans, refrigerators, and clothing, leaving many residents devastated.
The incident has plunged the community into mourning as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
