Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror has been appointed as the new Clerk-to-Parliament, succeeding Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who will retire upon reaching the mandatory age of 60 on February 2, 2025.
Mr. Djietror, currently the Deputy Clerk in charge of Corporate and Financial Management Services, was selected after an extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Service Board in November 2024, where he emerged as the preferred candidate among three deputy clerks interviewed for the role.
Mr. Djietror brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served as one of the longest-serving procedural clerks in Parliament.
In his career, he has been Clerk to several key parliamentary committees, including the Committee on Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, the Business Committee, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
A seasoned lawyer, Mr. Djietror’s expertise in parliamentary procedures is widely recognized.
The Speaker of the Eighth Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has already issued an appointment letter to Mr. Djietror, enabling him to assume his new role on January 1, 2025. Mr. Nsiah has been directed to proceed on annual leave from December 31, 2024.
One of Mr. Djietror’s first major duties will be conducting the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament and the Speaker on January 7, 2025.
The Speaker is expected to formally announce Mr. Djietror’s appointment before Parliament adjourns for the Christmas holidays.
