The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has named Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, as the First Deputy Speaker for the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
The announcement was made during an NDC Parliamentary Caucus meeting on Monday, January 6, 2025, ahead of the official start of the new parliamentary term.
This appointment aligns with parliamentary rules requiring the two Deputy Speakers to represent different political parties, ensuring balance in the House’s proceedings.
Andrew Asiamah Amoako, the independent MP for Fomena, was re-elected as the Second Deputy Speaker, continuing in the role he held during the Eighth Parliament.
Asiamah’s position and experience have earned him respect across the political divide, contributing to his reappointment.
