The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Executive Committee of Tema Central has called for calm and unity amidst growing tensions over the appointment of a new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
The appeal follows recent protests by some youth in Tema demanding that President John Dramani Mahama appoint an indigene as Mayor. Reports suggesting that 2024 parliamentary candidate Ebi Bright may be considered for the role—despite earlier speculation around Patience Ankamah Addo—have further fueled the unrest.
In a press release signed by Constituency Chairman Benjamin Djakumah, who also chairs all NDC constituency executives across Tema East, Central, and West, the Committee urged all stakeholders to respect constitutional processes and prioritize unity.
“At this critical time in our democratic journey, we call on all political party members, supporters, and the good people of Tema to remain calm, united, and respectful of due process,” the statement read.
The Committee reaffirmed its confidence in President Mahama’s judgment and pledged full support for any nominee he selects, stressing, “Let us prioritize the collective progress of Tema over individual interests and work hand-in-hand to build a peaceful and prosperous municipality for all.”
