Security Analyst Dr. Franklyn Kwesi Biney has cautioned national security agencies against the growing use of aggressive, unannounced raids, warning that such tactics risk eroding public trust and undermining national stability.

Speaking in May 2025 on ABC News GH, Dr. Biney said these heavy-handed operations are causing “growing resentment among some Ghanaians” who feel their civil rights are being trampled.

He emphasized that while security remains crucial, “a more measured and respectful approach” is needed, especially in cases tied to national interest.

The statement follows recent operations by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) that have drawn public criticism.

Dr. Biney further expressed deep concern about the long-term effects of politicizing security institutions.

“It’s not good for our economy, not good for our political development, not good for our democracy,” he stressed, warning that if unchecked, this trend could become a precedent for future governments and “a distraction of our democracy we’ve built with time.”

He called for reforms in the recruitment process of security personnel, noting that a lack of proper training and competence among some recruits often results in abuse of power.
