Parliament has approved a GHS10.10 billion budget for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to execute its 2025 programme of work, marking a significant expansion in Ghana’s public health coverage.
The enhanced National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will now cater for critical services including dialysis, mental health conditions such as depression and schizophrenia, family planning, and treatments for childhood cancers.
This strategic funding aims to widen access to essential healthcare services and safeguard vulnerable populations.
In a related move to bolster national development, government has also announced a GHS22 million allocation for the rehabilitation of Ghana’s historic forts and castles.
The investment seeks to preserve the country’s rich cultural heritage while strengthening tourism infrastructure.
