Salam Nsiah, a Senior Analyst with Global InfoAnalytics, has predicted low voter turnout in the ongoing Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun, citing a general lack of enthusiasm among constituents.
Speaking on ABC News GH today, Nsiah noted that the excitement seen during the December 2024 general election is missing this time around.
“There is a lack of enthusiasm compared to the actual election held in December,” he observed.
Nsiah expressed concern over what he described as the growing culture of monetization in Ghanaian politics, warning that it could severely hinder efforts to fight corruption.
“Monetization is a bad culture we have adopted. Meaning fighting corruption will be very difficult. Both parties are doing it, just that those in power do it more,” he stated.
According to him, many voters in Ablekuma North have likely received some form of inducement to participate in the rerun, further undermining democratic principles.
He added that the outcome of today’s rerun would hold only short-term significance in Ghana’s broader political landscape.
“Whoever wins is just a short-term bragging right. The main bragging right is in 2028,” Nsiah stressed.
He urged both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reflect on their conduct and focus on meaningful reforms ahead of the next general election.
