Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has formally filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The filing ceremony took place on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters in Accra, where he was accompanied by party executives, close allies, and a large crowd of loyalists.
Supporters thronged the premises, chanting slogans and waving placards, with many echoing, “No Ken, No Vote!” as he prepared to address them.
Mr Agyapong, who has positioned himself as a formidable contender within the party, used the occasion to outline his vision.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, he said, “Some people have ideas. But I have bold ideas and creativity. We want somebody who can create businesses for the youth of this country.”
His message, which resonated with the supporters, highlighted job creation and innovation as the key pillars of his campaign.
Party officials confirmed that all necessary documents were duly filed, paving the way for Mr Agyapong to officially hit the campaign trail in the coming weeks.
His entry makes him the second high-profile aspirant to formally join the race, following the filing of nomination forms by former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, just a day earlier. The race is expected to intensify as the ruling party prepares to elect a new leader to succeed President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2028.
