The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released comprehensive guidelines to regulate the Tamale Central parliamentary primary tomorrow, promising a disciplined and credible process for delegates and candidates alike.

The primary follows the death of the sitting MP, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

In a notice signed by Dr. Arnold Mashud Abukari, Northern Regional Director of Elections and IT, voting will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and close before 2 p.m.

To ensure order, four ballot boxes have been designated, each corresponding to a specific electoral area. Delegates will be identified using QR-code-enabled tags bearing their details and must also show an additional ID such as a voter ID, Ghana Card, or membership card.

The polling arrangements have also been carefully structured. Polling Station 1 will serve regional and constituency executives, alongside branches from Agric Mohiyebihi, Gumbihini North, and Aboaboo Ward. Polling Station 2 will accommodate Moshi-Zongo, Tishigu, Salamba, ADB, Warizihi, and Gumbihini South. Polling Station 3 is assigned to Dakpemfong, Buglanfong, Sabonjida, and Victory Wards, while Polling Station 4 will cater for Changli, Choggu West, Dohinaayili, Zogbeli, and Lamacara.

Observers accredited for the election will remain at the supporters’ stands and will not be granted entry to the inner perimeter unless approved. Candidates may present four agents per ballot box, but only one of them will sign the collated sheet at the end of voting. Every candidate will also be allowed into the inner perimeter with two accredited representatives.

Delegates are prohibited from carrying mobile phones into the voting booth, while candidates are banned from transporting delegates or campaigning at the voting grounds. These measures are designed to maintain order and fairness throughout the exercise.

The NDC believes the combination of clear rules, transparent polling arrangements, and strong enforcement will ensure a credible process in Tamale Central as party members choose a new representative for Parliament.
