The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed that its planned demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, will go ahead as scheduled, despite the release of its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.
Abronye was granted bail on health grounds and released on Monday, September 15, after spending a week in custody on charges of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of public peace.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, the NPP’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, explained that the protest is not solely about Abronye’s detention but rather about what the party describes as persistent harassment of its members by the police and the government.
He stressed that the demonstration is a response to months of alleged abuse of power, harassment, and political intolerance under the NDC government. According to him, the release of Abronye “does not cure the problem,” and the party intends to follow through with its plans and subsequent protests.
Mr. Mustapha added that the police have been formally notified of the protest, which he described as a deliberate and intentional response to what the party sees as a calculated campaign against its members.
Abronye was first arrested on Monday, September 8, and on September 12, a court ordered him to remain in custody for one week to allow prosecutors more time for investigations before his release.
