The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the NPP.
In a statement dated February 4, 2026, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP said the party has faced significant challenges in recent times and must now rally behind leadership that is grounded in the grassroots and committed to rebuilding confidence across all levels of the party.

According to him, the NPP requires a leader who values every member—from party elders to youthful activists—and is prepared to make sacrifices in the interest of party unity and progress.
“I, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), having consulted my Maker and sought the counsel of party elders, hereby declare my intention to serve as National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party,” the statement read.
Chairman Wontumi stressed that his decision was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to strengthen, rebuild, and unify the party as it prepares for future electoral contests.
He acknowledged that the road ahead would require courage, vision, and unwavering determination, adding that leadership at this stage demands the boldness to make difficult decisions and the willingness to make personal sacrifices for the survival and success of the party.
“We are ready. We are organized. We are built for the battle ahead,” he stated.
Chairman Wontumi further expressed confidence that under focused and resolute leadership, the NPP could restore grassroots confidence and position itself for a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections.
