The Ghana Police Service has declared three additional suspects wanted in connection with the deadly robbery attack on a bus carrying players of Berekum Chelsea FC, and is urging the public to assist with information leading to their arrest.
The suspects, identified only as Dauda, Huefe, and A.T., are currently on the run. Their identities emerged following the arrest of two key suspects, including the alleged leader of the robbery gang.
The two suspects, Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” and Bawa Gideon, were apprehended on April 15, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at Atimatim, a suburb of Kumasi.
Police say the operation was executed by a joint team made up of personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, the Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, and the Ashanti South and Ashanti Regional Commands.
According to authorities, the suspects attempted to escape during the operation and reportedly opened fire on officers. However, they were overpowered and taken into custody.
A search conducted after their arrest led to the retrieval of several items, including a pistol loaded with two rounds of .32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, pepper spray, a locally manufactured firearm, desert boots, mobile phones, and a black pullover.
During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed allegedly admitted to participating in several robbery incidents, including attacks at Nkawie and Fufuso, as well as the robbery involving the Berekum Chelsea team.
He is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The police have praised the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and extended appreciation to the public for their continued support.
Authorities say efforts are underway to track down the remaining suspects, who will be prosecuted once arrested.
The robbery, which occurred on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District, led to the tragic death of Dominic Frimpong, a player of Berekum Chelsea.
Frimpong, who joined the club on loan from Aduana FC in January, had been one of the team’s promising talents. He made 13 league appearances and scored two goals during the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing as police intensify efforts to bring all those involved to justice.
