Former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Betty Krosby Mensah, has announced her intention to contest for the position of National Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), subject to the party’s official electoral guidelines.
In a statement issued on Monday, the former lawmaker said her decision follows months of reflection, extensive consultations, and a nationwide engagement tour across all 16 regions of Ghana.
“After careful reflection, extensive consultations, and a nationwide engagement with the grassroots of our great party, I wish to announce my intention to offer myself for consideration to contest for the position of National Women Organiser,” she stated.
According to her, the nationwide tour gave her a deeper appreciation of the aspirations, concerns, and expectations of women and the broader party membership.
“I have listened to their voices, shared in their experiences, and received valuable counsel on the direction they believe our Women’s Wing should take,” she added.
Hon. Mensah, who previously served as Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, said her decision is rooted in a desire to serve rather than personal ambition.
“I firmly believe that the women of the NDC are the backbone of our party. They deserve leadership that listens, organises, recognises their contributions, builds their capacity, and creates opportunities for every woman — from the grassroots level to the national platform,” she said.
She pledged to build a united, inclusive, and stronger Women’s Wing by strengthening grassroots mobilisation, recognising the contributions of women, promoting capacity-building initiatives, and creating opportunities that enhance economic empowerment and improve livelihoods.
“I therefore humbly seek the trust, confidence, and support of delegates when the party opens nominations as we work together to build a more vibrant Women’s Wing and a stronger National Democratic Congress,” Hon. Mensah concluded.
Her declaration adds to the growing interest in key national executive positions ahead of the NDC’s internal elections, with the contest for National Women Organiser expected to attract significant attention as the party prepares to elect a new leadership to steer its affairs.
