The Ministry of National Security in Ghana has responded to accusations made by Member of Parliament (MP) Yao Gomado regarding the tragic deaths of two individuals in the constituency. Gomado claimed that ministry operatives had planned the deaths.
The Ministry has categorically denied the MP’s account, calling it wildly erroneous and apparently designed to further a personal agenda.
The Ministry claims that the presence of National Security personnel in the Akan Constituency is part of an intelligence-led operation to counter the surge in cocoa smuggling. This illicit activity has had a significant impact on the sales of cocoa beans to licensed buying companies.
The tragic accident occurred on December 25, 2023, involving a vehicle from the operations team and a motorcycle, resulting in the untimely deaths of two individuals. This incident sparked a wave of vandalism and arson by resentful people who, driven by misconception, believed the deaths were intentional.
The Ministry addresses the incident and urges the public to reject the MP’s misleading narrative. The Ministry remains committed to its anti-cocoa smuggling campaign.
