Herbert Krapa, Deputy Energy Minister, has been appointed as the new Board Chair of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Krapa’s appointment comes following the resignation of Keli Gadzekpo on Tuesday, March 26, citing personal reasons.
In his new role, Herbert Krapa is tasked with leading the ECG Board in addressing recent power outages that have affected the country. The ECG has faced mounting pressure in light of what many citizens have termed a resurgence of power cuts, colloquially referred to as “dumsor.”
Despite Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s assurances that dumsor has not returned, public outcry has prompted calls for the government to provide a timetable for power cuts to enable citizens to plan their activities accordingly.
As the new Board Chair of ECG, Krapa is expected to work closely with stakeholders to implement measures that will mitigate the impact of power outages and improve the reliability of the country’s electricity supply.
