The Electoral Commission (EC) has revealed that a total of 18,772,795 valid voters are anticipated to participate in the upcoming general elections in December.
This figure includes 9,690,173 females and 9,082,622 males, marking a significant step toward ensuring broad electoral representation.
708,282 new voters have been added to the electoral roll, highlighting the growing engagement of citizens in the democratic process.
In addition to the new voters, the EC’s provisional statistics show that there are 332,110 transferred voters, 2,167 proxy voters, 32,974 applicants on the exceptions list, and 26,798 applicants on the multiples list.
These numbers indicate an active electoral landscape as the commission prepares for the elections.
The EC’s efforts reflect a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all eligible voters.
During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra on October 1, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa addressed concerns regarding the provisional voter register.
She announced that the commission has largely resolved the errors identified in the voter register while acknowledging that some imperfections remain.
Mensa reassured stakeholders that these challenges are typical of any registration process and emphasized the EC’s ongoing dedication to rectifying these issues to ensure a smooth electoral experience for all participants.
