The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Elections Committee has confirmed that it is taking steps to address concerns raised by Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s campaign team, one of the party’s flagbearer aspirants, to ensure that the party’s upcoming primaries are not delayed.
The move follows an injunction application filed by Dr. Duffuor’s team, citing discrepancies in the register to be used for the primaries.
The Electoral Commission had earlier announced its decision to refrain from supervising the NDC’s presidential and parliamentary primaries due to the injunction application.
Maadi Jibril, a spokesperson for the NDC’s Elections Committee, acknowledged that such challenges are expected in any election, but emphasized that any efforts to delay the primaries would be deemed unacceptable by the party.
“Any effort that will delay the elections for even a minute, whether intentional or unintentional, we will call it an effort to delay the elections. We are already late to elect a flagbearer. We should have elected our flagbearer in January. So anything that will delay the process even for a minute, the party will have to be up for it.”
Jibril added that the party was already behind schedule in electing a flagbearer, as the primaries were originally supposed to have been held in January.
He further stated that the party was engaging with all stakeholders involved to resolve the issue promptly, and that the Electoral Commission had indicated its willingness to organize the primaries once the matter was resolved.
“We are continuing to do some engagement, but I know that the Electoral Commission has said they cannot organise the election since there is an injunction, but if there is a resolution, they will be ready to organise the elections,” Mr. Jibril added. it [the alleged anomalies in the album]”, he said on Tuesday evening.
