Governance Expert Dr Fredrick Oduro has urged leaders to prioritize national interests over party conflicts in light of the escalating tensions between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding majority status in Parliament.

Dr. Odoru emphasized the need for MPs to focus on critical national issues rather than getting caught up in disputes over majority representation.

“I don’t think we are being fair with ourselves as a people. There are more important and critical things we need to be concerned with,” he stated during his appearance on ABC IN THE MORNING.

This plea comes on the heels of a significant legal ruling by the Supreme Court of Ghana, which issued a stay of execution on Speaker Alban Bagbin’s controversial decision to declare the seats of four MPs vacant.

The MPs in question—Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Amoako Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central)—will maintain their positions while the court reviews the case, a development that has stirred political unease among the factions.

The ruling, delivered by a panel of esteemed justices led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, reflects the gravity of the ongoing contest between the Majority and Minority factions, highlighting the need for stability in governance during these tumultuous times.

The court’s stay of execution halts the implementation of the Speaker’s ruling, allowing the affected MPs to continue their legislative responsibilities without interruption.

This legal intervention is pivotal in preserving the current composition of Parliament, ensuring that critical discussions and decisions can proceed unhindered.
