The Ashanti Regional Police Command has successfully secured the conviction and sentencing of three 18-year-olds involved in a violent daytime robbery spree that terrorized residents of Boubai in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The incident, which took place on the morning of Monday, July 1, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., saw the suspects—Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari—armed with machetes and riding unregistered motorbikes as they launched a series of coordinated attacks on unsuspecting residents.
Victims were robbed of mobile phones, bags, and cash in broad daylight.
The trio’s rampage was cut short by brave community volunteers who tracked the culprits to their hideout in Aboabo later the same day.
They were swiftly apprehended and handed over to police. Ten mobile phones and three bags believed to have been stolen during the attacks were recovered.
Following their arrest, the suspects were arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court in Kumasi on July 8, 2025, where they all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. Mamudu Issah also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of causing harm.
The court sentenced Mamudu Issah to 10 years’ imprisonment on each robbery-related count and three years for causing harm—all to run concurrently.
His accomplices, Samuel Takyi and Alhassan Abubakari, were also sentenced to 10 years each, to run concurrently.
The convicts have been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin serving their sentences.
Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway for three other suspects believed to be part of the gang.
The Police Command commended the public, especially the community volunteers, for their courageous role and has urged anyone with information on the remaining accomplices to come forward.
