The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an official statement released on April 30, 2025, has directed that all pending passport applications must be finalised on the new online portal within 90 days.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa warned that around 30,000 legacy applications remain in the old system, of which 7,900 represent paid applicants whose applications are incomplete.
The ministry emphasised that this deadline is intended to streamline processing and eliminate administrative backlogs.
Addressing concerns over additional fees, the statement assured applicants that “applicants with incomplete applications will not be recharged to complete their pending application.”
This measure is designed to protect those already paid and to encourage swift migration to the modernised chip embedded passport system.
To comply, applicants are instructed to visit the new portal at passport.mfa.gov.gh and follow the prompts to finalise their submissions.
