Member of Parliament-elect for the Ablekuma North Constituency, Ewurabena Aubynn, will be sworn in today, July 22, 2025.
The announcement was made by the MP-elect herself via a social media post on July 21, where she invited party supporters and the general public to witness the ceremony.
Her election marks the end of a prolonged contest over the parliamentary seat, which had remained unresolved following the December 7, 2024 general elections.
The Ablekuma North parliamentary results were initially declared inconclusive due to disputes in several polling stations.
After failed attempts at collation, the Electoral Commission conducted a rerun in 19 of the 37 challenged polling stations on July 11, 2025.
Ewurabena Aubynn, representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured 34,090 votes to narrowly defeat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Nana Owusu Akua Afriyie, who garnered 33,881 votes.
She was officially declared winner at the Greater Accra Regional office of the Electoral Commission.
The rerun, however, was marred by violent incidents at the Odorkor Methodist 1 Polling Station.
Former MP for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson, was attacked and beaten by unidentified thugs who stormed the polling station in a pick-up vehicle.
Witnesses reported that she was kicked in the groin and repeatedly assaulted until police officers intervened.
Additionally, Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, Deputy National Organiser of the NPP, was also assaulted by unidentified individuals at the same location.
