The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear before the Accra Circuit Court on September 12, 2025.
Abronye was arrested on September 8, 2025, by the Ghana Police Service on charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.
His lawyer, Daniel Martey Addo, confirmed that his client was also formally charged with breach of public peace and publication of false statements, charges which Abronye has denied.
Mr. Addo further alleged that after his arrest at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra, Abronye was moved under unusual circumstances.
He claimed that the NPP regional chairman was later taken to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), although officials of the Bureau reportedly denied having any record of him.
The lawyer insisted that these developments raise questions about the transparency of the handling of the case. Meanwhile, the police have not publicly addressed the claims regarding Abronye’s alleged transfer to the NIB.
The case, which has drawn considerable public attention due to Abronye’s political prominence, is expected to continue on September 12, when he is scheduled to reappear in court.
