In a recent development, the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has expressed worry over statements made by individuals in prominent positions that could potentially influence the outcome of the ongoing criminal trial of James Gyakye Quayson, the Member of Parliament-elect for Assin North.

Of particular concern to the Attorney General are appeals to overturn the high court judge’s decision to hear the perjury case against the MP-elect on a daily basis.

One such appeal came from Dormaahene Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, who holds the dual roles of a traditional leader and a high court judge.

This appeal was made during the commemorative lecture held in Sunyani on July 1, which marked the 10th anniversary of the passing of John Evans Atta Mills.

According to the Attorney General, these remarks or appeals should not be tolerated as they could create potential implications in the legal proceedings and raise questions about maintaining an impartial judicial process for the case.

“I will come out with a proper statement on the matter and it will be in respect of all comments generally which have the tendency to subvert the administration of justice, I think that it is very unhealthy for our democratic dispensation and we must not countenance same.”
