Renowned legal luminary and former Ghana School of Law Director, Kwaku Ansa Asare, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his perceived lack of control over his ministers.
Speaking to ABC News on December 20, 2024, he described the President’s leadership as ineffective, citing the Finance Minister’s failure to present the 2025 Mini-Budget as a glaring example.
“The President must take total responsibility for his incompetence and ineptitude. He has no control over his ministers. If he did, he would have swiftly acted to curb the excesses of his Finance Minister,” Ansa Asare said.
He also took aim at Parliament, describing the behavior of some young MPs as irresponsible and unworthy of their positions.
“It shows the caliber of people we bring to Parliament. If they were responsible, they wouldn’t behave like this,” he added.
His comment comes as the Finance Minister, Amin Adam, failed to present the much-anticipated 2025 Mini-Budget before the close of the current parliament session.
The Mini-Budget, a constitutional requirement designed to provide a fiscal outlook for the upcoming year, was expected to address key economic issues, including revenue mobilization, expenditure priorities, and strategies for fiscal consolidation before the next administration takes over.
The development has also raised concerns of a potential government shutdown from January 1, 2025.
Despite high expectations, the presentation did not occur, prompting Speaker Alban Bagbin to adjourn proceedings.
