The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has unveiled a digital payment platform to facilitate the collection of Business Operating Permits (BOPs) and Property Rates, accessible via short codes 22233# and 22255#.
Announced during a Rate Payers’ Training programme at the Ablekuma South Sub-Metropolitan Council, the platform allows users to make payments directly through mobile phones and download receipts and certificates online.
According to Nobel Atsu Ahadzie, AMA’s Director of Budget, the initiative is designed to streamline revenue collection, improve accountability, and eliminate middlemen, thereby reducing corruption.
Hon. Richard Tagoe, Assembly Member for Korle Bu electoral area, lauded the move, calling it long overdue.
“This concept is very good and should have been implemented a long time ago,” he said, emphasizing the system’s potential to secure AMA’s revenue and eliminate leakages.
He urged the AMA to ensure strict enforcement of the platform’s regulations to maintain compliance among ratepayers.
The AMA plans to expand the initiative across its sub-metros following a successful pilot in the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District.
