The Acting Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MEST), Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has formally handed over the ministry to newly appointed Minister Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.
Mr. Buah, who also serves as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, completed the handover at a ceremony marking the beginning of Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ tenure at MEST.
The transition comes with a renewed focus on environmental protection, science, technology and innovation as key drivers of Ghana’s economic and developmental progress.
At the ceremony, emphasis was placed on the need for Ghana’s development to be pursued without compromising environmental sustainability.
The remarks also highlighted the constitutional responsibility of both the government and citizens to protect and preserve the environment, stressing that environmental protection is a shared responsibility and not solely the duty of state institutions.
The need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, local communities, civil society organisations and other stakeholders was also emphasised as part of efforts to address the country’s environmental challenges.
Continuous public education was identified as another important area, particularly in promoting awareness of citizens’ civic responsibilities and the need to protect Ghana’s natural resources.
The handover is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to advance sustainable development while supporting Ghana’s environmental, scientific and technological agenda.
