Ghana Premier League heavyweights Asante Kotoko have officially announced the termination of Prosper Narteh Ogum’s contract as head coach, citing recent poor performances. In a statement released on Monday, April 21, 2025, the club confirmed the decision to part ways with the 47-year-old tactician.
The decision follows back-to-back defeats – a 3-0 loss to Accra Lions and a 2-0 defeat to Nations FC – in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season. The club’s statement reads:
“Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has this afternoon parted company with Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. This decision was reached following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time.”
The club expressed gratitude to Coach Ogum for his dedication and service, wishing him well in his future endeavors. They urged supporters to remain calm and continue supporting the club during this transition, promising further updates in due course.
Ogum’s return to Asante Kotoko ahead of the 2023/24 season was marked by disappointment, with the team finishing sixth last season with 49 points. Despite guiding the Porcupine Warriors to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title, his second stint has been unsuccessful.
Under Ogum, Asante Kotoko recorded 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 defeats in 28 league matches this season, scoring 28 goals and conceding 21. The team’s poor run, including recent back-to-back defeats, led to speculation about Ogum’s future.
Asante Kotoko is expected to announce a new head coach soon. The Porcupine Warriors’ next match is against Aduana Stars in a crucial Ghana Premier League fixture next weekend.
